Sodium glutamate is a kind of salt, but not just any salt. It is special kind of salt which makes food more delicious and full of taste. Despite being tasty, MSG has some critics. They believe that consuming too much MSG can be unhealthy. This concern is so widespread that some now refer to it as “Chinese restaurant syndrome.” ” They suspect it may be dormant food from Chinese restaurants. But here’s the kicker: Many scientists have closely studied MSG and determined it is safe to eat for most people. If MSG is enjoyed in moderation, they believe it's perfectly fine!
So, how does MSG make our food taste so good? Well, MSG does its work by intensifying the flavors in food, making it more savory. It does this by awakening a unique taste bud on our tongue. This particular taste is that of "umami," which otaku, a borrowed-from-the-Japanese word meaning weird but lovable people who obsess about something, would call delicious taste. Umami is a specialty, and it is different from the other four tastes we spoke of before: salty, sweet, sour and bitter. Umami is a class of taste in food that has been purported to be a savory flavor that is within the type of foods we eat, bringing in a kick of savory flavor that we just love.
You probably don’t realize that most snacks and meals have been enhanced with MSG to make them tastier. MSG is used in many types of packaged foods commonly consumed, including snack foods like chips, canned soups, and frozen dinners, as it adds flavor. Burgers, fries, and other fast food items, also often have MSG as an ingredient. But MSG is not only found in processed foods, a lot of nutritious food also has natural MSG! Natural sources of MSG include foods such as tomatoes, green peas, and seaweed, which naturally contain MSG without any additional MSG being added. And, our favourite Haoji snacks, spicy peanuts and roasted seaweed crisps, are made with MSG which gives you that extra yummy blast of flavour!
As we wrote earlier, scientists have looked into MSG and found that it is safe to consume for most people. But it’s nonetheless critical to remember to work in a varied diet. It means we have to avoid too much processed foods that have a lot of MSGs. All playing it out of my famous international experience in the G8 House, etc., etc. Too much of anything – even if it tastes great – can have a negative impact on your well being. Which is why we should seek out foods that deliver all five of the taste sensations, not only the umami taste of MSG!
